Werner Herzog is among the greatest directors in the last 50 years of cinema. He’s an expert at crafting great feature films and documentaries, one of the few filmmakers to ever be successful at both. If you haven’t heard of Herzog, this video will introduce you to several films that will move, provoke, and thrill you.

Sifting through the several dozens movies and shorter documentaries that Herzog has made over the last 50 years, I offer you what I think are his 10 best movies. Actually, I include an 11th as a bonus.

Included are some of his collaborations with Klaus Kinski, the wild, captivating actor with whom Herzog will forever be linked. Topics briefly touched on in this video (implicitly or explicitly) include the Romantic Sublime, death, fatalism and nihilism, and whether or not you should pet grizzly bears.
