Ever seen a movie where somebody playing an instrument instantly transforms everybody?
It happens a lot, and it’s what I call “the magic piano” cliche. In this video, I tell you what the cliche is, showing you why it’s used in movies and why it tends to overdo the emotional values of the scenes in which they are placed in.
I’ll focus on pianos in movies, using scenes from Green Book, Groundhog Day, and Shine.
